DeKalb County Sheriff Thomas E. Brown got his gun back.

Brown said his gun was stolen Tuesday from his county-assigned car parked outside a Home Depot on Lawrenceville Highway in Stone Mountain.

DeKalb Police spokeswoman Mekka Parish said the theft is still under investigation and police have no suspects.

“The gun was anonymously turned in yesterday,” she said Friday. “We’re still investigating.”

On Friday, sheriff’s spokeswoman Mikki Jones said the pistol had been recovered, but she did not say where it was found. Jones said the gun was turned over to the police department for processing.

Surveillance video from the Home Depot showed a man followed the sheriff to the store entrance, turned around and then returned to the SUV.

“He jammed some type of tool under the key hole and opened the door,” Brown said Wednesday.

The suspect took the gun, which was stashed in the center console, along with the navigation system and radio, Brown said. The suspect then fled in a Ford F-150.

Brown said he stopped at the Home Depot to buy some flowers to plant at the jail.
