A robbery suspect was killed early Saturday in a chase by DeKalb County police.

Channel 2 Action News reported the incident began when officers received a call about a carjacking on Columbia Drive. Police soon spotted the stolen truck in southeast DeKalb, Channel 2 reported.

Police said the suspect drove the stolen truck up a hill on Thomas Road, got out and ran into a nearby wooded area.

As officers gave chase, shooting began, said police, who could not confirm whether the suspect fired shots. Police said a gun was recovered.

Police told Channel 2  the man was shot at least once in the leg. He was taken to a local hospital, where he died. An autopsy is scheduled to be performed.

The officers involved in the shooting have been placed on administrative leave, authorities said.
