Before jury selection, DeKalb man pleads guilty to killing ex-girlfriend
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
In an unusual move, a murder defendant in DeKalb County pleaded guilty prior to jury selection this week.
Eusebio Sanchez, 25, was sentenced to life in prison for killing his former girlfriend last year, said Orzy Theus, spokesman for DeKalb District Attorney Gwen Keyes Fleming.
Sanchez entered his plea Monday, when he admitted to repeatedly stabbing Maria Victoria Figueroa, 31.
On Sept. 21, 2009, Sanchez broke into Figueroa's Doraville apartment, chased her to the front steps and killed her, Theus said.
"The plea was unusual," Theus said, "because in DeKalb County defendants rarely enter a guilty plea to a crime as serious as murder prior to jury selection."
