Agnes Scott College has enrolled its largest freshman class in the institution's 122-year history, officials announced Thursday.

The private women's college in Decatur has 265 first-year students and the number may increase slightly, officials said. The previous record was 257 first-years in the fall of 2000.

The students come from 28 states, with about 54 percent hailing from Georgia. About 13 percent are international, coming from the following 10 countries: Bhutan, China, Ghana, Haiti, Indonesia, Jamaica, Mexico, Nigeria, South Korea and Vietnam.

Their average high school grade-point-average was 3.62.

This was the first class admitted following the college's decision to make the SAT and ACT optional. Students could submit standardized test scores or a graded writing sample or an evaluative interview.
