African-American enclave highlighted at DeKalb History Center
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
An African-American enclave in north-central DeKalb County will be the subject of a temporary exhibit at the DeKalb History Center next month.
The Mt. Zion community dates back to the 1800s on the northeast side of LaVista Road. The exhibit includes research from the Arbor Montessori School, which conducted several years of research in the area, including oral interviews. It also features historic photographs, and artifacts from farming and daily life.
The opening reception for the exhibit will be from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. March 2 at the Old Courthouse on the Square in Decatur. The exhibit, which is free and open to the public, runs weekdays from March 3 to June 11 at the Old Courthouse on the Square.
