1 killed in predawn crash on I-285
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
One person has died after a predawn crash on I-285 that sent several people to the hospital and shut down the interstate for about two hours.
Jerune Tillery, 22, died shortly after arriving at Grady Memorial Hospital, DeKalb police said.
The wreck happened just before 5 a.m. on the westbound lanes of I-285 between Flat Shoals Parkway and Bouldercrest Road.
DeKalb police spokeswoman Mekka Parish said the driver of a sedan lost control and hit a guard rail, ejecting Tillery and another person from the vehicle.
Tillery and the other ejected passenger were initially hospitalized in critical condition, Parish said. Another person in the car sustained moderate injuries, while a fourth person had minor injuries, she said.
Parish told the AJC late Tuesday morning that the single-vehicle wreck remained under investigation and charges had not been determined.
The names of those injured have not been released.
All westbound lanes were blocked for about two hours. Authorities reopened one lane about 6:45 a.m. and reopened the remaining lanes a few minutes later.
