A Douglas County wreck left two people dead on Christmas Eve after one speeding vehicle clipped a slow-moving one, Coroner Randy Daniel said.
“We have two fatalities and no charges,” he told The Atlanta Journal-Constitution. “One guy was at fault and they airlifted him out to Grady and he died.”
Daniel said he did not think the crash was weather related. He attributed it to reckless driving, based on witness statements.
Attempts to reach the Georgia State Patrol for comment were unsuccessful.
The wreck happened just west of Fairburn Road on Interstate 20 westbound near Prestley Mill Road around 12:30 p.m., according to police.
The speeding car had been traveling in the fast lane but tried to weave through traffic where it had a slow-moving vehicle in the slow lane, Daniel said.
“The one vehicle was flying, zipping in and out of traffic and it clipped the other guy and they both lost it,” said Daniel. “They both went down a ravine.”
Both men died from their injuries. Authorities did not identify the men, but police said one was 30 years old and the other was age 69. No other injuries were reported.
