A woman reportedly kidnapped from a Forest Park bank ATM earlier this week was not abducted at all, and her two friends are now facing charges for making the story up, Forest Park police said.
Justice Watford and Lashay Jackson were taken into custody without incident Friday afternoon after calling detectives from their home, Channel 2 Action News reported.
They are being charged with obstruction and making false statements, police said.
The women told police they were making a deposit at the ATM outside the Wells Fargo bank on Main Street around 1:30 a.m. Wednesday when they were robbed by several gunmen, who then forced the driver of the women’s car into the back seat and kidnapped her.
The woman supposedly kidnapped was found safe in College Park about 12 hours later.
She had a different story for police.
“During that interview she stated that she had no idea what was going on. That she was not kidnapped,” Capt. James Delk with Forest Park police told Channel 2.
She told police she loaned her car to Jackson and Watford and had not seen it since, according to Channel 2.
