A Henry County man gets 25 years in prison for a machete attack on his girlfriend.

Attacking his girlfriend with a machete has brought a Henry County man a 25-year prison term.

Terry Witt, 48, of Hampton, pleaded guilty Friday to criminal attempt to commit murder and other charges, district attorney spokeswoman Megan Matteucci said in a news release.

“This is a horrible case of domestic violence,” District Attorney Darius Pattillo said. “This man is a violent individual and we are pleased to bring justice to this victim.”

Witt attacked his live-in girlfriend from behind May 28, Matteucci said. He hit her in the head and then repeatedly hit her with the machete, almost severing her left arm.

The victim also had injuries to her back and right arm. She was flown to Grady Memorial Hospital, where doctors saved her left arm.

Witt also pleaded guilty to aggravated battery and two counts of aggravated assault, Matteucci said.

Superior Court Judge Brian Amero sentenced him to 25 years in prison followed by the same amount of time on probation.
