What was originally thought to be a deadly traffic accident now has a 16-year-old facing murder and aggravated assault charges, Walton County officials said.

Cortez White and Davoddren Harris were found with multiple gunshot wounds in a car Tuesday afternoon along Clegg Farm Road near Social Circle, Sheriff Joe Chapman said in a news release.

Chapman said the men traveled to Walton County from Meriwether County to purchase an item posted on a social media site.

Witness Larry Sneed saw the victims’ car crash into his neighbor’s fence about 150 yards from his driveway, Channel 2 Action News reported.

“With the ambulance, the fire truck and the police tape going up,” he said, “it looked more like a crime scene.”

Officials thought the men had crashed and died, but later they said their “deaths do not appear to be a result of the traffic accident,” leading them to believe the crash was suspicious.

“We believe that others were involved in this incident,” Chapman said, “and any information leading to the arrest and conviction of persons involved is greatly appreciated.”

Tipsters can receive a reward of up to $5,000.

No further details were released about the teen or the two men.
