A South Georgia man was identified as one of the soldiers killed in an attack in Niger earlier this week, according to the U.S. Defense Department.
Sgt. Dustin M. Wright, 29, of Lyons, was part of a joint U.S.-Niger mission when he was killed Oct. 4 as a result of hostile fire during a reconnaissance patrol, according to a news release.
Sgt. Bryan C. Black, 35, of Puyallup, Washington, and Sgt. Jeremiah W. Johnson, 39, of Springboro, Ohio, were also killed.
The soldiers were assigned to the 3rd Special Forces Group at Fort Bragg in North Carolina. The incident is under investigation.
