A member of the Fort Valley City Council is facing two counts of cruelty to children, the Macon Telegraph reported.

Juanita Bryant, 66, “maliciously caused excessive physical pain” to two children, ages 12 and 17, according to arrest warrants obtained by the newspaper.

GBI agent J.T. Ricketson said the Peach County Sheriff’s Office called in state investigators Feb. 2 to look into the allegations.

The alleged abuse happened between October 2016 and the end of last month, the newspaper reported.

Bryant has been released from the Peach County jail on bond, the newspaper reported. Her council term expires this year.

Fort Valley is about 100 miles south of downtown Atlanta.
