A couple are in custody after a tire iron was used in an attack on a 68-year-old man in Marietta, police said.

Darron Webb, 50, and Danielle Holman, 37, are facing aggravated assault and other charges from the incident at Roswell and Fairground streets, police spokesman Chuck McPhilamy said Thursday in a news release.

About 5:15 p.m. on Sept. 30, responding officers found the victim, Douglas McConnell, on the ground being helped by witnesses, McPhilamy said. Witnesses told police the victim and another man, who was driving a tan SUV, got into an argument.

“Witnesses state both drivers exited their vehicles, at which time the driver of the tan SUV approached (the victim) and struck him in the head with a tire iron,” McPhilamy said.

“A female was also seen exiting and re-entering the suspect vehicle.”

McConnell told Channel 2 Action News that the couple pulled in front of him. He had to slam on his brakes to avoid hitting them, and he blew his horn to let them know.

Soon he saw Webb holding a tire iron, Channel 2 reported.

“They jumped out the car, they started hollering out the window, the lady did, and the next thing I know, I was waking up in the hospital,” McConnell said.

Holman, who was identified as the woman, was arrested this week on an outstanding warrant for failure to appear, according to police. She also has been charged with tampering with evidence and obstruction in addition to aggravated assault.

Holman allegedly kicked an officer while she was being arrested, Channel 2 reported. She allegedly helped Webb beat the victim, according to the news station.

Webb was identified as the driver and was arrested Wednesday.

McConnell said he still needs oral surgery.

“Don’t get into road rage, keep going if you can,” he said, “because it's a lot of fools out there.”
