A hostage situation has ended in Clayton County.

A man is in custody after police say he held his girlfriend against her will following an argument Tuesday afternoon inside a Clayton County motel room.

A 911 caller told authorities a woman’s screams could be heard inside a room of the HomeStay Suites in the 6300 block of Ga. 85, Riverdale police spokeswoman Nicole Rabel told The Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

Officers responding to the scene were able to determine the woman was being held hostage. Riverdale police investigators, the Clayton County Sheriff’s Office SWAT team and Clayton County emergency and fire services were called to the scene.

“Immediate action was taken to secure a perimeter and safely resolve the incident,” Rabel said.

A Clayton County Sheriff’s Office negotiator was able to assist with the woman’s rescue, Rabel said. The victim’s boyfriend, James Glenn, was taken into custody.

The victim’s and suspect’s names have not been released.
