Alabama man gets life for killing ex-Fulton girlfriend’s new boyfriend

A Fulton County judge gave an Alabama man life without parole for nearly decapitating his former girlfriend’s new boyfriend, District Attorney Paul Howard announced Thursday.

Terry Marshall, 45, was convicted Wednesday of murdering Marshal Tucker with a shotgun blast May 19, 2014, Howard said in an email. A jury also convicted Tucker of trying to kill his former girlfriend Latonia Patterson and other crimes.

The killing happened in Fairburn after Patterson opened the door for Tucker at her Harbor Lakes Parkway apartment. The woman saw Marshall running up the stairs behind Tucker and Marshall kicked in the door, Howard said. Marshall shot the man in the head with a shotgun, Howard said.

He then aimed the gun at Patterson’s neck and shot her. Marshall fled to his home in Valley, Ala., and turned himself in to police, the prosecutor said.

Investigators determined Marshall was upset about a social media posting by Patterson highlighting her new relationship with Tucker, Howard said.
