Court seeks applicants to replace late Judge Sanford "Sammy" Jones

Fulton County Superior Court is accepting applications for the juvenile court judgeship left vacant by the death of Judge Sanford "Sammy" Jones.

Jones and a Newnan teenager, Sasha Medina, were killed when the single-engine plane Jones was piloting experienced engine trouble and crashed in an Alabama hayfield last month.

Jones, 56, served as the county's chief Juvenile Court judge from 1999 to 2008 and helped establish the Family Drug Court.

Qualified candidates for the judgeship, a fulltime circuit-wide position, should send expressions of interest and resumes to the court by Aug. 30.

Those items should be sent to the Superior Court of Fulton County, c/o Judith Cramer, Court Administrator, 136 Pryor St. SW, Suite C-640, Atlanta, GA 30303.

The Superior Court judges also are seeking input from the public regarding this upcoming appointment.
