Counting crimes in Atlanta neighborhoods

Crime is a big topic in the upcoming Atlanta mayor elections. Police figures show crime is down approximately 10 percent for 2009 while community organizations like Atlantans Together Against Crime perceive a rise in violent crime in the city.

The following are the neighborhoods with the most incidents filed by the Atlanta Police Department in 2009, featuring the top five most frequent crime types.

While violent crime is the main driver of public concern about crime, none of the neighborhoods in the top 20 featured a violent crime in their top five crime types.

1. Downtown – 1,398 total incidents
