USGS: 6.3-magnitude earthquake hits Tibet
BEIJING — A 6.3-magnitude earthquake shook China's western region of Tibet Monday, the U.S. Geological Survey said.
There were no immediate reports of casualties or damage after the temblor, which struck Zhongba county, 3,200 kilometers (2,000 miles) west of Beijing, according to the official Xinhua News Agency.
The quake caused cracks in some buildings in Zhongba, Xinhua said.
Xinhua said the quake had a magnitude or 6.8. There was no immediate explanation for the discrepancy in magnitude.
On May 12, a 7.9-magnitude earthquake in China's Sichuan province, just west of Tibet, killed 70,000 people and left 5 million homeless.
