A cold front making its way into extreme north Georgia early Monday was expected to bring a good chance of showers and thunderstorms to the state later in the day, but drier air behind the front should keep the rest of the work week dry.
About a quarter-inch of rain or less fell across metro Atlanta Sunday morning, but strong storms well south of the city left minor damage later in the day, the National Weather Service said.
The Weather Service reported trees and power lines down in Troup, Harris, Early and Dodge counties, and a barn was set on fire by lightning in Troup County.
The forecast for metro Atlanta calls for a 50 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms on Monday, with rain ending overnight. Highs will be in the mid-80s, followed by lows in the mid-60s.
Tuesday through Friday will be mostly sunny, with highs in the upper 80s Tuesday and Wednesday, warming to the low 90s Thursday and Friday.
A 20 percent chance of showers is predicted for Friday night, continuing through the weekend. Weekend highs will be in the low 90s, the Weather Service said.
