Carrollton police were investigating the scene where one man was killed and another critically wounded Friday during an early-morning shooting at an apartment complex near the University of West Georgia in Carrollton.

Carrollton police Capt. Jami Sailors said the shooting occurred about 2 a.m. Friday during a fight at a party at the Campus Quad apartments on Columbia Drive.

Ramondo Johnson, 25, of Carrollton was pronounced dead at Tanner Medical Center, Sailors said. A second victim, Rahmere Cowling, 21, of Hampton, was taken to Tanner in critical condition and later airlifted to Atlanta Medical Center.

Traveris Wilson, 24, was arrested shortly after the shooting, and was later charged with murder, Sailors said.

According to the complex’s Web site, Campus Quad is “a private off-campus student community” serving students at the University of West Georgia.

Barbara Aiken, a spokeswoman for the company that manages the apartments, said Friday that neither the victims nor the suspect were residents of the complex, which is about a mile from the university.

Sailors said late Friday morning that investigators had not determined a motive for the shooting, or what led up to the fight.
