UGA will honor the students and the 13 staff members and three faculty members who died during the year at the university's annual candlelight vigil at 7 p.m. April 29 at the University Chapel.

The service has been held every year since 2000.

"These kinds of losses are gut-wrenching," UGA President Michael Adams said at a university cabinet meeting Wednesday.

Adams said the service provides comfort to parents, family and friends of the deceased students and UGA employees. Each name is read, followed by a toll of a bell.

The university chapel bell, which has been broken since the UGA/Auburn game this fall, will be replaced with a bell from a dining hall for the service.

Adams said the 173-year-old chapel bell is being repaired at a foundry.
