In December’s runoff, retired businessman Kaul defeated stay-at-home mom Michelle Crofton in one of the closest races in city history.

Deadlocked at 398 votes, the election was determined by one questionable ballot — first by City Attorney Pat O’Brien, then by two elections officials in a recount.

In the other race, 28-year-old banker Hixson defeated Judge Jan McKinney.
