The incident comes just four months after Gwinnett police conducted a undercover "crosswalk sting" at an intersection one-fifth of a mile away, at South Norcross Tucker Road and Jimmy Carter Boulevard. Police officers cited 62 drivers in one day for failing to yield to an undercover officer posing as a pedestrian.

At the time, police said they picked the spot because of its high pedestrian traffic, where residents of nearby apartment complexes can be seen walking to and from area businesses at all times of the day.

In Sunday's accident, police say the driver of a blue Chrysler Concorde had a green light traveling southbound on South Norcross Tucker Road.

Antonio was in a marked crosswalk, but he had a stop signal, Schiralli said.

Police say they think Antonio hesitated in the middle of the road when he saw that the vehicle in the left lane had begun to slow down. He then continued to cross and was struck by the driver of the Concorde in the right lane, who had not seen him, Schiralli said.

Antonio died at the scene.

Police still had not released the name of the driver as of Monday morning. No charges have been filed against the driver, although police said the the accident is still under investigation.
