It's no surprise, but it is a big deal.

Collins Hill's girls basketball team will enter the season No. 1 in the nation, according to USA Today rankings released Thursday.

The newspaper noted that the two-time defending state champs, who finished No. 2 in the rankings last season, return UConn-bound forward Maya Moore and Texas Tech-bound shooting guard Jordan Jones.

Moore could become the second high school girl to win the Naismith Award twice.

The Eagles are followed by Poly (Long Beach, Cal.); Christ the King (Queens, N.Y.); Lexington (Ky.) Catholic; and Fenwick (Oak Park, Ill.).Georgia AAAA champion St. Pius, led by Tennessee-bound center Kelley Cain, is ranked No. 12. Collins Hill and St. Pius will play Dec. 9 at Oglethorpe University.

If any Georgia team has a right to feel miffed, it's South Gwinnett. The Comets aren't ranked despite returning four starters, including three Division I signees, from the team that fell 65-55 to Collins Hill in the Class AAAAA title game.

In boys rankings released Wednesday, defending Class AAAAA champ Norcross came in at No. 2 behind Oak Hill (Mouth of Wilson, Va.).
