A Forest Park man was shot dead Sunday morning after interceding on a 15-year-old boy’s behalf.

Clayton County Police spokesman Kevin Hughes said the shooting was a byproduct of a squabble between the youth and some unidentified people gathered in front of Building 46 at Laurel Pointe Apartments on Johnson Road.

“The juvenile was accused of doing something and was accosted,” Hughes said. “The victim came around to see what was going on.”

Chavez Denard, 25, was shot several times following a brief squabble. Officers responding to the scene at around 11:30 a.m. found Denard lying in the parking lot of the Forest Park apartment complex.

He died after transport to Southern Regional Medical Center. Hughes said there were witnesses to the shooting but a suspect has not yet been named.
