Gas prices across metro Atlanta continue to spike

Metro Atlantans are paying 11 cents more for a gallon of gas than they were a week ago, and 46 cents more than a month ago.

But they’re still paying a lot less than a year ago, when prices were peaking around $4 a gallon.

Sunday’s average for regular was $2.47, according to atlantagasprices.com, which tracks prices based on motorist reports. That was up from $2.36 a week earlier and $2.01 a month ago.

The national average was $2.59 on Sunday, the Web site said.

Experts say prices could keep climbing into the summer, partly because of a recent uptick in the price of crude oil, which touched $70 a barrel on Friday. AAA, which had earlier predicted a summer average price peak of $2.50 a gallon nationally, said last week that the average could hit $2.75.
