An insurance company will give out free life-insurance policies for parents of working families in metro Atlanta as part of a national charitable campaign.

Massachusetts Mutual Life Insurance will take applications Sept. 28 at Ben Hill United Methdist Church, 2099 Fairburn Rd., from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The $50,000 policies cover parents. If a parent dies, the money will go toward paying a child’s education.

Stassi Heropoulos, a company spokesman, said they plan to give away $1 billion worth of life insurance coverage this year in the U.S. He said there will be no follow-up calls from the company to try to sell the applicants more insurance.

“This is a philanthropic effort,” he said.

Those interested must call ahead of time to make an appointment for Sept. 28 with Corliss Simmons at 404-344-0618 or Jennifer Washington at 770-551-3407.
