Susan Posnick had been an makeup artist for many years when a personal experience opened her eyes to the industry. In 1999, she developed skin cancer on her face and was unable to find products with sun protection that stayed put in the Texas heat.
Posnick went in search of a solution, which a few years later would lead to the first product in her own line of cosmetics: ColorFlo mineral foundation. "People understood there was a product for your skin that could be better," Posnick said, but it wasn't until bareMinerals informercials hit the airwaves that women realized that product may be mineral makeup.

Posnick, who recently stopped in Atlanta to visit Tracy Ewell Cosmetics and Skincare in Inman Park and Entebello in Buckhead, kept digging until she found the perfect formulation. She even searched out innovative packaging; a refillable self-dispensing brush.
The foundation with SPF 26 is sweat proof and water resistant in addition to being travel friendly. And it led Posnick to build a collection that now includes eye color, blush, lip color and more; all in an effort to make beauty simple.
Q: What is the biggest misconception women have of mineral makeup?
A: "The misconception initially was that it was just a powder. With Susan Posnick Cosmetics, in the beginning they thought, 'Why would I pay so much for a powder?' Lower end products have minerals, but they also have fillers and additives...which make it a less expensive and less effective product."
Q: Have you ever had a regrettable makeup moment?
A: "Most of the 70's was a regrettable makeup moment. I think it was the era of doing brown on the cheeks. It wasn't a regrettable moment, it was a regrettable era."
Q: Atlanta has serious humidity. Any advice to keep makeup from withering in the heat?
A: "Work with a mineral foundation. It will not sweat off in the heat. It stays put and lets your skin breathe. Also change your moisturizer during the summer to something lightweight and oil-free, at least during the day. It could make a huge difference."
Q: You recently introduced two pink products to your line (ColorMe blush in Peony and ColorEyeDefine in Smokey Quartz/Rose Quartz). Why is pink a cool color?
A: "From my very early days as a makeup artist, I have always loved a perfect clean pink. Our blushers take a long time to develop and it has taken us over two years to get this pink right. It is a beautiful fresh clean color."
