Nothing says the holidays like bullets, bloodthirsty creatures and siblings who can crush each other with evil words steeped in kindness. Right?

At least seven movies will open in metro Atlanta on Wednesday for the long Thanksgiving holiday. Here's Mojo's roundup of cinematic tidings, each appealing to different tastes and some actually having to do more with hugs than hatred:
"ENCHANTED" — Disney's magical fairy tale meets modern-day New York is expected to be the holiday's big kahuna. Amy Adams (a much-deserved Oscar nominee for "Junebug") plays an animated princess-to-be who's transformed to live-action New York by an evil queen (Susan Sarandon). Rated PG, this family film is meant to be light, charming and easily digestible. Co-stars include Patrick Dempsey and James Marsden.
"THIS CHRISTMAS" — From Atlanta-based producer Will Packer, it's a family-comes-home drama with a recognizable ensemble cast (Regina King, Loretta Devine, Mekhi Phifer, Columbus Short and Chris Brown).
"HITMAN" — Vin Diesel is out and Timothy Olyphant ("Live Free or Die Hard") is in playing the genetically engineered assassin Agent 47 in a bullet-riddled film based on the video game. The drama was filmed in Europe and Africa by producer Luc Besson.
"THE MIST" — Oscar nominee Frank Darabont directs the latest adaptation of a Stephen King story, this one involving a strange storm that ultimately evolves into bloodthirsty creatures attempting to get to townspeople taking refuge in a store. Among the cast: Thomas Jane, Andre Braugher and Marcia Gay Harden.
"AUGUST RUSH" — Few films emit as much sweet sap as this feel-good weeper with Freddie "I've Got the Music in Me" Highmore as the long-lost son of musicians (Keri Russell and Jonathan Rhys Meyers) who met all gooey-eyed on a one-night stand.
"I'M NOT THERE" — Six actors, including Cate Blanchett, at different times play Bob Dylan in this unusual, artsy biopic from director Todd Haynes.
"MARGOT AT THE WEDDING" — Nicole Kidman and Jennifer Jason Leigh are sisters (and potential Oscar nominees) in writer-director Noah Baumbach's verbal-slice-and-dice comedy/drama that overflows with emotional pain.
AND DON'T FORGET THE DVDS: Several new DVDs arrive on Tuesday that you might want to consider for your holiday viewing. For the musically minded: "Hairspray" with John Travolta in drag. For the action-minded: "Live Free or Die Hard" with Bruce Willis. For the silly-minded: "The Santa Clause 3: The Escape Clause" with Tim Allen. For the survival-minded: "Rescue Dawn" with Christian Bale.
TALK TO THE CO-DIRECTOR: The Charles Nelson Reilly one-man show "The Life of Reilly" opens today at Landmark's Midtown Art Cinema. After the 7:20 p.m. showing Saturday, co-director Barry Poltermann holds a Q&A. Comic Reilly died in May in Los Angeles.
