Hey Santa, maybe it's time you changed your suit.
After all, you've been wearing red trimmed in white for more than 125 years. And all those slides down chimneys during the holiday season can put a damper on even the most polished look.

To help out the Big Guy — no, not the Georgia one — we asked Atlanta design students to give his suit, and image, a makeover. Our glam squad came up with a variety of looks, from cool to urban. Three versions started with a noticeably leaner Santa, while two had traces of that famous round belly.
Whatever, the looks are fun, fashionable and certain to give the beloved North Pole resident plenty of choices before he starts on his seasonal rounds.
• Designer: Keenan Zeno, 20, a senior fashion design student at Bauder College.
Santa's signature style: Zeno opted for a younger, slimmer Santa.
He also gave Santa a darker complexion to suggest ethnic diversity. But Zeno made sure to maintain one eternal quality: "I kept the twinkle in his eye for an added hint of friendliness."
The updated outfit features a 10-karat gold and diamond embroidered coat with a fox collar and cuffs. Santa also gets a gold and white argyle cashmere sweater, white wool pants, and white shoes. Zeno topped the look with a gold and white fur-trimmed skullcap.
"Santa Claus is an image with a pure heart," the designer said. Because of his heart, he is rich and able to give to the world. "This new look fits the essence of a man with a heart of gold."
• Designer: Ashlyn Pope, 19, a senior fashion design student at Bauder College.
Santa's signature style: Pope took a more traditional route — with a twist. Now Santa can appeal to the younger crowd.
"Santa's new look is a compromise between tradition and the New Age," Pope said. She designed a long hooded jacket made from medium-weight crushed velvet. The faux white rabbit trim is accented by a black leather belt with a gold-plated buckle.
"It fits his budget — providing him with an expensive look" at less than expensive prices, Pope noted. Santa's khaki trousers are dyed a more earthy brown and his shirt is made from cotton, again an affordable, breathable material.
"He's hot and traditional," she said. "He's Santa Clauz."
• Designer: Daphne Dunn, 44, a senior fashion design student at Bauder College.
Santa's signature style: Preserving the color red, Dunn drew inspiration from the '80s ski resort lounge lizard.
"The new look is functional and marketable," she said. Santa wears a two-piece suit made in red poplin down, trimmed in brown sable. An attachable fur-trimmed hood helps protect Santa's neck on those nightly runs.
Among his new accessories, Dunn included cashmere mittens, a silver "S" buckle, a long key chain, alpaca-lined black boots and cashmere socks. Specially designed goggles help increase visibility in blizzards. And his gift bag comes in green canvas with a modified strap.
• Designer: Peter Belcher, 26, graphic design student at the Art Institute of Atlanta.
Santa's signature style: "While clearly a man who works hard — note his large bag — Mr. Claus is a unique individual who likes to look good while doing his work," Belcher said.
His corporate Claus wears a custom-made suit of red Italian wool gabardine.
Belcher added a candy-cane striped silk tie, a narrow black leather belt and ankle-high black leather dress boots. Santa's custom-made Egyptian cotton shirt is even accented with red buttons and red cuff links.
"Red suspenders and a dressy version of the traditional Santa hat are a nod to tradition," Belcher said. "But he is wearing smaller, wire-framed glasses in a new [squarish] shape. His nice, casual 'GQ'-type pose and business approach make this Santa stand out."
• Designer: Antonio Cornelious, 21, an illustration and design student at the Art Institute of Atlanta.
Santa's signature style: Consider it a make-under for Mr. "Cool" Claus.
Cornelious' Santa suit features khaki pants and a red cashmere sweater, topped by a gold-and-brown leather jacket with a "Louis Vuitton-inspired SC logo design."
To complement the look, the designer chose gold suede knee-high boots, a narrow brown belt, brown leather gloves, a gold wallet chain and an updated Santa hat in a heavy stretch cotton knit.
As for those pesky glasses, well, "Lasik surgery has eliminated the need for glasses," said Cornelious, who also opted for a little product. Santa's beard has been trimmed and conditioned.
