Peering ahead …

Retired Gen. Wesley Clark and Sen. John Edwards will spend a lot of time in Tennessee before Tuesday’s primary, but about 90,000 Democratic voters there have already cast their ballots. Tennessee’s early voting period ended Thursday. The tally won’t be taken until the polls close Tuesday. But some tea-leaf reading may be possible. According to the Tennessee Election Division, 87,951 votes had been cast. Leading in the turnout was Shelby County, home of Memphis, where Rep. Harold Ford Jr. has endorsed Sen. John Kerry.
