TBS production move will bring 70 jobs to Atlanta

Tuesday, June 23, 2009

Turner Broadcasting System said Tuesday it is moving the production of its live daytime court coverage programming on its truTV channel from facilities in New York City to CNN Center in Atlanta, resulting in about 100 staffers losing their jobs in New York, and approximately 70 jobs opening up in Atlanta, said TBS spokeswoman Shirley Powell.

“This is all behind the scenes production stuff; the viewer won’t really notice the change,” Powell said. The network is moving production of live trials to Atlanta because “ ‘In Session’ is a news operation so it is a natural fit within the CNN organization,” Powell said. The shift will take effect in November.

She confirmed the anchors for truTV’s “In Session” coverage of trials, Jack Ford and Ashleigh Banfield, are among the staffers who were told they were being cut in a memo sent out Tuesday afternoon from Marc Juris, executive vice president and general manager of truTV, and Ken Jautz, executive vice president of CNN Worldwide.
