Colleges to outline their budget cuts
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
Georgia's state colleges and universities are expected to report Wednesday on how they plan to deal with expected budget cuts.
The report will come during the state Board of Regents meeting in Atlanta starting at 8:30 a.m. Each of the state's 35 campuses has been asked to submit plans for 4 percent, 6 percent and 8 percent cuts.
So far, colleges have said they will have to furlough employees, cut jobs and increase class sizes if more money is taken from their coffers. For now, the state is withholding 5 percent of the higher education budget, but that could increase if state tax collections continue to plummet.
That's on top of the $238 million that was carved out of colleges' budgets last fiscal year, which ended June 30.
