A Cobb County middle student was taken to the hospital Monday afternoon after his school bus crashed into some bushes in Mableton.

The bus was taking Lindley Middle School students home when it veered off of the road and ended up in some bushes in a yard at 585 Hickory Trail, Cobb County Police spokesman Officer Joe Hernandez said.

"The bus driver was turning around and claims her brakes failed," he said.

Two students were on the bus. One student complained his back hurt and was taken to a local hospital as a precaution, Cobb County schools spokesman Jay Dillon said.

"He appears to be OK," Dillon said.

Dillon declined to identify the student.

Cobb police are investigating the crash and no charges have been filed.

The bus driver told officials theĀ  brakes failed. The district's transportation department will investigate the crash to determine if the brakes were faulty, Dillon said.

Another bus took the other student home, Dillon said.
