The Atlanta Journal-Constitution

Cobb County Schools released a proposal this week to buy property between Ward Street and Atlanta Road to construct a new Smyrna elementary school. The $7.8 million purchase borders Campbell High School and calls for the creation of playing fields and open space for both schools. The district would also purchase the Smyrna Commons apartment complex from the City of Smyrna’s Downtown Area Development Corporation. The apartment complex would become vacant once all leases expire in 2012. The new school would open in the fall of 2013. The board will vote on the proposal at the Feb. 17 meeting.
