A 24-year-old airman from Marietta is one of the eight military pallbearers assigned to carry the casket for Sen. Ted Kennedy at the memorial services for the late Massachusetts Democrat.

Senior Airman Travis Chisum is a member of the honor guard dispatched to military funerals. His mother, Sondra, said her son also participated in the funeral for former President Gerald Ford in 2006 and he was part of the ceremonies honoring the queen of England when she visited Washington two years ago.

Chisum, assigned to Bolling Air Force Base in Washington, followed his two older brothers into the military, enlisting four years ago after studying a year at Fort Valley State University.

Chisum graduated from Marietta High School and is married to his high school sweetheart. They live in Washington and have a 9-month-old son and a second child on the way.
