The Atlanta Journal-Constitution

A 7-year-old Cobb County girl who was attacked by a pit bull mix a week ago has been discharged from the hospital, according to news reports.

The little girl, whose name was not released, was rescued by a good Samaritan, who pulled the dog off her using a piece of wood to separate them.

The girl was walking alone in the Valley View mobile home park near Marietta when she was approached by the 115-pound dog and the dog attacked her, police said.

Errol Jones, 26, visiting his sister at the park, saw the attack. After pulling the dog off the girl, he put her in his car and drove her to WellStar Kennestone Hospital.

An off-duty officer at the hospital called police.

The child was later transported to Children's Healthcare of Atlanta at Egleston to be treated for a severe leg wound.

The dog was destroyed last week and the owner, Claudia Baez, was charged with having a vicious animal, lack of control and having no rabies vaccination.
