The Atlanta Journal-Constitution

Cobb County Schools released preliminary 2012 budget information Friday, and based on early projections, the district is looking at a $20 million to $35 million shortfall.

The figures are based on assumptions about state and local revenues. It assumes property tax revenue will drop 7 percent and the millage rate will increase to 20 mills. It also calls for five furlough days for eligible employees and a school year of 175 days.

The district’s budget must be approved by June 30, said Mike Addison, the district’s chief financial officer.
