Driver charged with DUI in serious Marietta wreck
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
A Marietta woman was arrested Wednesday and charged with DUI after causing a wreck that left a man in critical condition, authorities said.
Sheila Anne Hunter, 50, allegedly struck a truck on Cobb Parkway late Tuesday, causing both vehicles to flip, Marietta police said.
Both vehicles were traveling northbound on S.R. 41, just south of the Canton Road Connector, when Hunter's Honda Accord entered the other lane and struck a Ford Super Duty truck, Officer Michael Gardner told the AJC. The collision caused both vehicles to leave the roadway and overturn, and the truck struck a brick street sign, Gardner said.
The male driver in the truck, Vance Engle of Acworth, had to be extricated before being flown to Atlanta Medical Center, Gardner said. Engle, 36, remained in critical condition Wednesday.
Witnesses were able to free Hunter from her car, Gardner said. She was transported to WellStar Kennestone Hospital in good condition.
Neither vehicle had a passenger, Gardner said.
Cobb Parkway was closed for about 90 minutes in both directions, according to GDOT. It re-opened shortly after midnight.
In addition to DUI, Hunter also faces charges of failure to maintain lane and serious injury by vehicle, police said. She was booked into the Cobb County jail, where she was being held on $50,000 bond.
