Around 1 p.m., the armed man entered a home in the 200 block of Nickajack Road and encountered a pair of people.

He tied up the people and moved to another end of the house, where he encountered a third person, authorities said.

While the man was binding the third person at the home, one of the individuals escaped from his bindings and got a gun.

Police have not named the escaped victim, but CBS Atlanta News identified him as home owner Danny Carlson, a neighborhood tennis instructor.

Carlson found the invader, and gun shots were exchanged, Cobb police spokesman Joe Hernandez said.

Carlson was shot and taken to Atlanta Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries, authorities said.

The suspect, whom police believe also was shot, fled the house on foot toward Fontaine Road, Hernandez said.

Police described the suspect as a 40- to 50-year-old black man weighing between 200 and 250 pounds, and standing about 6 feet tall.
