Cobb police seek diamond thief

Maybe his eyes were bigger than his wallet.

Cobb County police are on the lookout for a diamond thief who posed as a weekend shopper to snatch a precious gem.

The thief entered the Shane Company at 735 Ernest Barrett Parkway in Kennesaw around 11:05 a.m. Sunday. He asked to see a diamond and, after a salesperson removed it from the glass display case, hightailed it with the merchandise. The initial police report did not say the shape or size of the diamond, only that it was a VVS2 (very very slightly included)  in clarity and G in color, which appears flawless without magnification and is nearly colorless.

The man was last seen getting into a white Hyundai Elantra driven by another unidentified man.

The suspect is described as a black male between 25 and 30 years of age, with a light complexion, light brown hair and blue eyes. He was about 6 feet 3 inches tall and 175 pounds and wore a black sweatsuit with black sneakers.

The police did not have a detailed description of the getaway driver. Anyone with information about the robbery is asked to call Cobb County Police Department at 770-499-3945.
