Cobb police captain charged with DUI resigns
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
A Cobb County police captain arrested for driving under the influence in Douglas County last month has resigned from the force.
Capt. David Gallmon submitted his letter of resignation on Monday.
According to Cobb police spokesman Joe Hernandez, the brief letter read:
"Effective Monday August 16, 2010, I resign my position with the Cobb County Police Department. I want to thank the men and women of the Cobb County Police Department for their professionalism and their support.”
Gallmon was arrested by the Georgia State Patrol around 2 a.m. on July 24, after his car was hit by a wrong-way driver on Ga. 92 near Annewakee Road in Douglas County, State Patrol spokesman Gordy Wright told the AJC.
Gallmon was taken to the Douglas County Jail and released on a $1,000 bond.
The driver of the Chevrolet Cavalier that struck Gallmon's Mercury Marquis was injured and taken to Grady Memorial Hospital. That driver, who was traveling north in the southbound lane of Ga. 92, also faces charges in the crash.
Gallmon was reassigned from precinct captain to administrative duties after the incident, according to Hernandez.
