Cobb man charged with being unlicensed dentist
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
A 58-year-old Cobb County man has been arrested and charged with practicing dentistry without a license, a felony, after he allegedly set up an illegal dental office in an apartment in Marietta, Channel 2 Action News reported.
Nevio Morias was arrested on a warrant Thursday and later that day posted $5,000 cash bond and was released, according to the Cobb County Sheriff’s Office.
The arrest warrant spells out details of the case:
An investigator with the Georgia Secretary of State’s Office visited Morias on Jan. 19 about a possible tooth extraction. The man’s office, an apartment in the 1100 block of Ashborough Drive, had a dental chair, dental instruments and what appeared to be an X-ray machine.
Morias examined the investigator’s mouth and told him that he had an inflammation, which would require a tooth extraction. He offered to perform the extraction for $100.
The suspect gave the investigator an orange tablet for the inflammation. The investigator said he would call when he had the $100 for the procedure, and left.
On Jan. 24, a warrant was obtained for Morias’ arrest after it was determined the man did not hold a Georgia dentist’s license.
No one responded when Channel 2 knocked on the door of the Ashborough Drive address.
When contacted by the AJC Friday, a spokesman for the Secretary of State’s Office declined to comment on the case, saying it was an ongoing investigation.
