Cobb inmate who escaped surrenders
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
A Cobb County inmate who escaped while working a detail at a Smyrna park Monday afternoon turned himself in early Tuesday morning.
Jesus Delgado Jr., 18, of Mableton will face additional charges for the escape.
Delgado walked off around 3 p.m. Monday from Rhyne Park, Cobb County Sheriff’s spokeswoman Nancy Bodiford said.
He was working as part of a detail for the Cobb County Parks and Recreation Department when he escaped, Bodiford said.
Delgado was sentenced to one year after being convicted of burglary and giving a false name to police. He was being held at the Cobb jail and waiting for the Georgia Department of Corrections to pick him up, Bodiford said.
Deputies with K-9s searched the park area Monday afternoon, but were unable to locate Delgado.
