Cobb boy abducted from trailer park recovered in Gwinnett
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
A 4-year-old boy reported kidnapped Thursday morning from a trailer park near Six Flags has been recovered unharmed in a Gwinnett County apartment.
About 4:15 p.m. police from various jurisdictions closed in on a Indian Trail Road apartment in Gwinnett County and recovered the boy and arrested two people, according to Gwinnett Sheriff's spokeswoman Stacey Bourbonnais.
Christian Guevera was abducted from the Village Mobile Home Park in the 700 block of Six Flags Road about 8:50 a.m. by two men wearing black ski masks, according to Cobb County police Sgt. Dana Pierce.
Pierce said Christian's mother had just returned from running an errand when she was assaulted and her child taken. WSB-TV reported that the attackers used a stun gun on the mother, but Pierce would not confirm that during an afternoon news conference soon after the boy was rescued.
Pierce said several agencies, including the U.S. Marshals, participated in the rescue, which he said was not violent.
"We did what we needed to do to get that child," he said. "There was never any resistance."
Pierce said the boy was taken to a hospital as a precaution. He said the kidnapping "was not a random act. For whatever reason, this family was targeted," he said.
A man who walked out of the Geuvera home identified himself as the boy's uncle, but refused to give his name. He told reporters that the boy's mother had already gone to the hospital to collect him. He said the kidnappers had called the mother on her cellphone twice that day demanding $100,000 ransom. He said the kidnappers spoke Spanish and that he believed at least one of them knew the mother, his sister-in-law.
While he was talking, a boy walked out of the house and stood by his side. The boy said he was Christian's older brother.
"I was scared when the police said they didn't know where Christian was," the 7-year-old said.
