Catholic school wins federal Blue Ribbon award

Students at Our Lady of the Assumption Catholic School got to wear blue jeans instead of uniforms after earning a National Blue Ribbon School of Excellence award last month.

"It's been a great celebration for them," said Diane Starkovich, superintendent of the the Atlanta Archdiocese. The school in DeKalb County is the 11th in the archdiocese to win the honor, she said.

Principal Anita Nagel and the principals of the four winning public schools in metro Atlanta have been invited to Washington next month to accept their awards.
