Boy injured in Cobb County wreck expected to leave hospital Monday
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
A boy injured in west Cobb County wreck Sunday afternoon is expected to be discharged from the hospital Monday, and Cobb County police are planning to charge the driver of the car that struck the SUV carrying the child.
The condition of the 5-year-old boy -- who was first reported to be 6 years old -- improved considerably once he reached Children's Healthcare of Atlanta at Scottish Rite, Sgt. Dana Pierce with Cobb County police told the AJC.
"They fully expect the child to go home today," Pierce said.
The child was a passenger in an SUV that apparently was T-boned by another vehicle at the intersection of Macland Road and John Ward Road just before 5 p.m., causing the SUV to flip onto its side.
The boy, whose name was not released because of federal privacy laws, sustained a head injury in the crash, according to police.
Jessica Wray, of Marietta, told the AJC she drove up on the wreck on her way to her home on John Ward Road. The SUV looked as though it was attempting to turn onto John Ward Road when it was hit, Wray said.
A woman in the flipped vehicle, believed to be the child's grandmother, was able to make her way out of the wreckage.
Pierce said police expected to charge the driver of the other car with failure to yield.
