Bird concerns could doom plans for Cobb waste station
For the AJC
The threat of bird strikes to aircraft could doom plans for a waste transfer station in Cobb County.
The Marietta Daily Journal reports that a Federal Aviation Administration study has led to concerns about a waste project planned for the Mableton area. At issue is the waste station's proximity to the Fulton County Airport at Charlie Brown Field.
Bird-attracting garbage dumps can be a threat to aviation since bird strikes can cause aircraft accidents.
Cobb County's planning commission in December had recommended approval of the project.
But Rob Hosack, Cobb County's community development director, says the planning department will probably change its recommendation. The matter was scheduled to be taken up at a Tuesday zoning meeting, but has been delayed until at least April.
