The Stripling-Lovelady House in Ball Ground is the early favorite in an online poll to determine the three historic sites in Cherokee County that the community most wants to save, said Stefanie Joyner, executive director of the county’s historical society.

The Stripling-Lovelady House in Ball Ground was build by D.C. Stripling, manager of the Bank of Ball Ground, in 1912.

“Many other preservation organizations around the country have ‘endangered lists,’ but, as far as we know, we are the only organization offering an online voting component to engage the public,” Joyner said.

The online voting started about a week ago and continues until Oct. 15 at www.rockbarn.org/sitesworthsaving .

The sites are: Canton Grammar School (Canton), Conn’s Creek School (Conn’s Creek Community), Donaldson’s Furnace (on Shoal Creek, northwest of Canton), Old Etowah Elementary School (Hightower Community), Hickory Flat Store (Hickory Flat), Roberts Building (Ball Ground), Shingle House (Creighton-Hightower Community), Native American-Early Pioneer Fish Weirs (Buffington and Cherokee County), Gramling House (Sutallee), Reeves House (Woodstock), the Fort Buffington Site (Fort Buffington) and the Stripling-Lovelady House.
