Homeowners and future homeowners are invited to a seminar to learn how to avoid home improvement scams.

Powder Springs Mayor Pat Vaughn and the National Center for the Prevention of Home Improvement Fraud are hosting the free “Smart Power” workshop at 6 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 9 at the Ford Cultural Arts and Community Center on Atlanta Street in Powder Springs.

Participants will also learn what details should be in a home improvement/repair contract, how to select a good contractor, how to work with insurance agents and how scammers are using “green” initiatives to defraud homeowners. First-time homebuyers and women are especially encouraged to attend.
